Contraband Game
Objective: Smuggle your money before it’s nationalized, but watch out for inspectors!
Setup
1) Two teams of four, please see the Player List for your team.
2) Each player has a loan of 400m. Of that loan, 100m is in your Swiss account, 300m is in your Vault. Swiss accounts and Vaults are kept private in your Inventory. Access to your Vault is card-restricted.
3) The game lasts 8 rounds and each round is composed of a Smuggling Phase and Inspection Phase, see their respective sections for more information. Each phase is 24h. The first four Smuggling Phases will last 48h.
4) Player will battle a different member of the enemy team each round in a series of 1v1 matches as both Smuggler and Inspector. Players have already been slotted for the order they will battle as found on the Player List, which will be provided after all Switcheroos have been used.
Rounds 1 and 5…A vs. E, B vs. F, C vs. G, D vs. H
Rounds 2 and 6…B vs. E, A vs. F, D vs. G, C vs. H
Rounds 3 and 7…C vs. E, D vs. F, A vs. G, B vs. H
Rounds 4 and 8…D vs. E, C vs. F, B vs. G, A vs. H
5) Finalization and pre-turn decisions are permitted.
Smuggling Phase
1) Each player must decide whether to smuggle 50m, 75m, or 100m yen, or nothing. If you will smuggle 50m or 75m yen, you must set aside a Reserve from your Swiss account of 50m or 25m, respectively, for this round; otherwise, you cannot smuggle that amount. You must use your card to smuggle money from your Vault.
1a) If the money you can withdraw is less than 50m yen and you wish to smuggle, you must elect to smuggle 50m yen and you will only carry the money you can withdraw. For the purposes of exact guesses for inspection, you will be counted as smuggling 50m yen.
2) A number of players may be notified depending on your decision. This notification can be forwarded to anyone in the game, see section "Forwarding" for more information.
2a) Smuggling nothing or 50m yen: notification does not occur.
2b) Smuggling 75m yen: You must choose one player on your team to be informed of the decision at the beginning of the inspection phase. On subsequent smuggles of 75M yen, you must choose a different player to inform, until all players on your team have been informed, at which point you are free to choose anyone on your team.
2c) Smuggling 100m yen: All players on your team are notified of your decision.
3) Players may set up their forwarding plans for this turn, see section "Forwarding" for more information.
4) Players may elect to become a Traitor and commit Treason if they are able. Relevant players will also receive the appropriate notification regarding the prior turn's Treason at the start of this Phase, see section "Treason and Traitors" for more information. Treason notification cannot be forwarded.
Inspection Phase
1) Decide what the opponent chose to smuggle in the Smuggling Phase by calling Pass, Doubt 50m, Doubt 75m, or Doubt 100m.
2) See the below chart for the smuggling result.
3) If you want to call Doubt X, you must have at least (X/2) in your Swiss account available.
4) If members of the enemy team want to become Traitors, you may also send in a vote to declare who should be Traitor.
5) After the Inspection Phase ends, the Dealer will reveal the result of each smuggling attempt.
Forwarding
1) If you expect to receive a notification from a certain player regarding smuggling during the Inspection Phase, you can ask the Dealer to forward the notification to one other player you specify (including members of the opposing team), if you so choose.
2) Note that the receiver can see the sender. If you receive the notification as part of a chain, you will only see the sender from the last link. If you receive notification from multiple senders, all senders will be displayed to you.
3) You may specify differently for each player (for example, Alice has active: 1. If notification comes from Bob, forward to Don, 2. If notification comes from Don, forward to Ethan). You do not have to specify all players.
4) Notifications are sent only at the start of the Inspection Phase. Changing your forwarding settings during the current turn will have no effect on notifications you received this turn.
5) Treason notifications are never forwarded.
Treason and Traitors
1) You may declare your intention to commit Treason and become a Traitor to the Dealer during the Smuggling Phase.
2) The enemy team will receive a list of players wanting to become Traitors from your team during the Inspection Phase and will vote for 1 player to be Traitor, 3 votes are required to confirm a Traitor. Players are allowed to abstain from this vote.
3) The successful Traitor and the enemy team will be notified by the LGT at the start of the next Smuggling Phase about the identity of the Traitor for the prior round and the LGT will then loan 25m into the Swiss accounts for each member of the enemy team.
3a) Traitor notifications cannot be forwarded.
4) A player can only be elected a maximum of two times as Traitor.
5) During payout calculation when the game is over, the Traitor secretly collects 25m from each teammate per act of Treason.
Winning and Payouts
1) Dealer will reveal the total money in every Swiss account and Vault, along with the number of rounds each team suffered from Treason. The team with the most money in their Swiss accounts + Vaults are the winners! Losers will go to the Revival Round. In case of a team tie, we will compare total yen in Swiss accounts. If it is STILL a tie, both teams are considered losers and will go to the Revival Round.
2) Players collect money in their Swiss accounts. Money remaining in the enemy Vaults are combined and split into four shares, one share for each player. Treason payouts are also now calculated. Players pay back any loans received at the start and during the game. Remember that money received as a result of Treason count as loans.
Inactivity
1) Each Phase requires you to send in at minimum a decision for smuggling or inspecting. If you do not send in a decision regarding what to smuggle during the Smuggling Phase, you automatically smuggle nothing and your opponent will be notified of your inactivity during the start of the Inspection Phase. If you do not send in a decision regarding your inspection during the Inspection Phase, you automatically Pass.
2) If you miss 6 Phases, you are automatically heading for the revival round. If you are on the winning team, the player with the most money on the losing team will take your place.
3) If you manage to miss both Phases in a single round, that's a 50m yen penalty to the LGT.
