Welcome, one and all, to the Liar Game Tournament! At this point, signups have closed, and the participants you see around you will be your fellow competitors throughout this tournament, barring possible odd circumstances. Introduce yourself and make friends, because you will sorely need them in the times ahead. Any player who signs up past this point will be considered a Substitute and will be on reserve should we require a player to round out the numbers or replace an inactive player.
Now, if each of you would go to your Vaults (personal sections of the board), you will notice a question regarding Starting Debt. Please answer it, informing the Dealers how much debt you would like to start the tournament off with. This debt is entirely optional and can range from 0 yen to 500M yen in debt. Until this debt is cleared, your winnings from games in the tournament will work to pay it off, giving you less money than you would otherwise have to help your allies or bid for items. This sounds bad, so why would you want to place yourself in debt? It represents a challenge and the degree of competence you expect to achieve in the tournament. In addition, by clearing your debt, you can gain trophies and shiny stars!
As our activity test, please post your Starting Debt in order to confirm your participation in the tournament. These debts will NOT be public; they are simply an optional test of your skill...
Also in your Vaults, you may notice that you have received a Trophy Cabinet, and a few of you have even received stars! The list of general trophies can be found here, but there will also be Trophies specific to the games you'll be playing. Since Bank Accounts and the like are not public, the stars these trophies provide aim to be a visible representation of your skill.
Once we have determined your starting debts, the tournament groupings will be decided, and the rules for the first game will be publicly displayed as well as the starting date of that game.
You have one week to confirm your participation in the tournament. Anyone who has not responded in their Vaults by the end of Monday, May 4th will be moved to Substitute status.
In addition, here are a few notes:
1) A reminder that, under no circumstances, should you ever share your login information with anyone else. Do not follow untrustworthy links, and always sign in through proboards at this website. Should we notice any strange activity on your account, we will investigate, and you may be banned from the tournament. Each player is only allowed to access the one account they were allotted.
2) Confessionals are used to give us an idea of your thought process in games, as well as to help you keep your plans in order. They will be helpful for later reference if you want to remember things. Chatlogs are used to highlight what you consider important game-related chunks of conversations. These will similarly be helpful for reference, if you don't want to search through months of conversations. In order to get trophies for Chatlogs and Confessionals, you must place them in your Vault, and they must be relevant to the game(s) at hand.
3) At the conclusion of this tournament, the plan is for Confessionals, Chatlogs, and Inventories to be made public. Should you want a specific thread kept private, you should tell us, and we can move it to a section that will remain private at the end of the tournament.
4) You can change your Display Name in the Personal tab of your Profile at the top of the page. This may be helpful for those multi-word usernames of yours. The search function of this forum searches through Display Names as well as Usernames.
5) If you would prefer people not keep track of when you are on and what you might be doing at that time, you can go invisible by going to your profile and editing the Privacy tab. Being invisible prevents everyone but Dealers from knowing that you're online. As the new PM system with conversations keeps track of things in order, it is possible to link messages of conversations together. If you don't want people to be able to figure out that you sent the message, they don't need to know you were online. Rest assured, the actual contents of your messages are private.
6) This tournament may be long, but we will try to work with you as much as you allow us. If you know that you will be unavailable for a period of time, tell us, and we can accept default decisions or search for a Substitute, depending on the length of time.
7) Upon elimination, players may stick around to participate in minigames. In addition, due to the small number of players, we may require eliminated players to act as Substitutes and fill in spots. We also plan to hold mock games alongside the tournament, so the eliminated players can still enjoy playing the games they came here to play. So, even if you're eliminated, it may not be over for you yet!
