Human Auction
Objective: Bid on fellow Players to win the most points!
Setup
1) Each Player receives 150m yen for use in this game. The loan is just 100m yen, so each player gets a free 50m yen!
2) There are 10 rounds with each lasting 48h. After those rounds, there will be a 24h Buying Period to buy more points (see section "Endgame and Payouts" for more information).
3) There are no transfers of money, except through bidding. Bank account transfers to other Players are not available during this game.
Gameplay
1) At the start of each round, the Dealer will reveal the following information.
1a) The number of Players (but not their identities) in each new Pool to the public. These Pools are in effect for only the current round (so a Pool from last round is "unpooled" and players are reassigned to new Pools).
1b) The winning Bidder(s) (referred to going forward as "Victor") of the last round's bidding learns how much money he/she paid to the "Target" player, the identity of the Target player and the number of points earned.
1c) Targets learn how much money he/she received. There is a limit of 20m yen per round with the rest of the payment confiscated by the LGT.
2) Players must submit their list of potential Targets in 48h via PM to the Dealer. Because of how Targets are determined, see section "Bidding Decisions and Target Selection" below for more information.
2a) All bidding is simultaneous.
2b) No self-bids.
2c) Bids are increments of 1m yen. Anything else is truncated and rounded down.
3) A Victor forms a Pool with the Target by winning the Bid. Chains may exist in a pool (if Alice wins a bid on Bob and Bob wins a bid on Charlie and Charlie lost the bid, then Alice and Bob and Charlie create a Pool).
4) Bidding Payments.
4a) If there is only one bid, the Victor pays his/her entire bid to the Target.
4b) If there are multiple Bidders with the same Target, the Victor instead pays the highest bid of the losing Bidders.
4c) If there is a tie for the winning bid, the first bid submitted wins.
Bidding Decisions and Target Selection
1) Each round, all Players are Bidders and must PM the Dealer with a prioritized list of potential Target players. The list size is determined in rule 5 of this section.
1a) It is possible, but risky, to send in a list of a smaller size without being marked inactive. However, if the Dealer cannot assign the Bidder to a Target, the Bidder is marked with an instance of inactivity.
2) Each potential Target may have a bid of same or different yen amounts. A bid with no yen is also possible.
3) If you were a Victor, your Target of last round cannot be on the list (you know that the Target is in your Pool). If it is, the Dealer will strike the Target off the list and proceed as normal (there is no penalty for the inclusion).
4) After receiving a Bidder's list, the Dealer will discard any names on the list who are in the same Pool as the Bidder. The remaining name with the highest priority becomes the Bidder's actual Target for the round. Remember that Pools are effective for the current round only. So after determining Bidders/Targets, the Pools are unpooled and the Dealer proceeds to calculate new Pools. Note that the Target selection process and identity of the actual Target is not necessarily revealed to the Bidder.
4a) If there is a Pool of five or six Players in a Pool at the start of the round, the restriction of not bidding on anyone in the same Pool is waived for the current round only. Victors still cannot bid on their Target of the prior round.
5) The advised size of the Bidder's list to avoid an instance of inactivity is as follows:
5a) Won the Bid (regardless of being a Target or not): Bid on (size of largest Pool - 1) players. Victor cannot bid on Target of last round.
5b) Lost the Bid, was a Target: Bid on any (size of largest Pool) players.
5c) Lost the Bid, not a Target: Bid on any player.
5d) One Pool of five or six: Bid on one player. Victor cannot bid on Target of last round.
5e) The first round: Bid on any player.
Points
1) The Victor receives a “Target.name Certificate” if he/she does not currently have one already after winning a bid for that round and earns one point. Certificates cannot be transferred or stolen. Certificates do nothing but state that the Victor won the bid on a particular Targets. Unlike Pools, where Players can make chains, Certificates do not affect or are not involved with any chains.
2) If the Victor already has a Certificate for the Target, the Victor instead earns half a point (but still learns the Target as usual).
3) If a Player has a Certificate from all other players, he/she discards the Certificates and earns five points. Players may then begin to re-earn Certificates and points as in rules 1 and 2 of this section
4) If the Victor defeated at least one Bidder, the Victor earns one additional point per Bidder. Owning the Target's Certificate does not affect any points earned through this rule.
Endgame and Payouts
1) Once the game is over, Players have a 24h Buying Period to determine whether or not to buy points.
1a) Buying is optional and no PM is necessary if the Player does not wish to buy points.
1b) Players may use any remaining money on hand and anything accumulated in their bank account.
1c) 100m yen buys nine-tenths of a point.
1d) There is a spending limit of 500m yen, meaning that a Player can buy up to 4.5 points.
1e) The 100m yen loan from the start of the game will be returned after buying.
2) The Dealer will reveal the total points of each player and how many points each player bought. The top 3 players with the most points win and move on to the next Round! In case of ties, the most money on hand wins (the personal bank account is not included; only money circulating during the start of the game is included for calculation). If there is still a tie failing to determine who is in the top three, those tied players lose.
Inactivity
1) An instance of inactivity is a deduction of one point. Points can be negative.
2) Players inactive three times are removed from the Tournament.
3) Players no longer need the inactive's Certificate for owning a complete set of Certificates per section "Points" rule 3.
4) An instance of inactivity is public knowledge.
