I figured that I would do here what I did for Occupy Boardwalk, since it seemed to almost be a necessity. So basically, this is just a place to talk about the current game and discuss it with the other players.
I'll modify this post when we are separated into groups. I guess that the other group/s are going to have to make their own thread when that comes to be!

Has anyone considered the aspect of randomness in this game? Is this really a game of chance? And if not, does it really matter on what cards you bid and when?

At 6 cards a round over 9 rounds, every card is going to be presented, so if your going for specific cards then it shouldn't be random in that aspect. The only real randomness is the Jokers, which I can only imagine are going to be nothing but an absolute pain.
The cards you bid on would have to depend on your strategy, of which there are several to choose from. That is where the fun begins!

Why yes, someone has considered the aspect of randomness in this game! Suffice to say, the randomness should not give any player an advantage or disadvantage. It's just a shuffled deck.

Now here is my next question: if it doesn't matter whether the cards are randomized, why include randomization at all?

I interpreted Imada's words that it is not ACTUALLY random as just such a claim. Do you have a conflicting opinion?

It's a randomness that doesn't favor anyone, as it's guaranteed that any card you want will show up sooner or later.

I will say that this game was made with a lot of thought and went through a lot of balancing. Randomization has its purpose in the rules. Without it, there would be quite a difference in gameplay. And many more problems with balance...
As I said earlier, and cozzer reiterated: the randomness should not give any player an advantage or disadvantage.

What I want to know is what you think is the reason there is an element of randomization in this game! Gee, I wonder what it takes to get a straight answer these days >...>

I'm... not sure I get the question. The Jokers are the only truly random thing, I guess. Of course there's the "randomness" created by other players' unpredictability, but controlling that is sort of the whole point.

Well, what I really want to know is whether you have any ideas how the game would be different if, instead, all players knew in what order the cards would be auctioned off.

Hmm... I don't think it would be very different, actually. People would have more time to plan ahead, I guess, but they would still have to change their plans on the fly according to other players' behavior...

I see we have been blessed with a possible full house right from the gate! This is going to get interesting.

So I may as well go ahead and mention that there is at least two ways for no one to be a loser in this game. The first is for everyone to always bet zero. The second is for everyone to work together and plan out what cards we are going to get. Neither situation is really advantageous though, so it is highly unlikely that we will be able to pull off either of these strategies.
Just thought I'd mention it, because why not.
